An airy, coastal semi-detached home in the beachside suburb of Maroubra.

This stunning home renovation on Paine Street in Maroubra is the perfect blend of thoughtful design and coastal styling to create space and functionality for this humble semi.

Our clients Shan and Ed made clever design choices throughout their build, creating an aesthetic that would appeal to a wide range of buyers if they decide to sell down the track. They settled on a neutral palette, curved accents and featured high ceilings as in the original bungalow structure. This gives an airy, coastal vibe - perfect for this beachside home.

This semi-detached home capitalises on every square metre, with plenty of storage in all the joinery and a chic mudroom in the laundry with side access to dust off sandy trips to the beach with the kids.

A cavity slider downstairs helps to keep the main living spaces warm in winter and cool in summer, as well as sectioning off the staircase and bedrooms, allowing for the kids to be asleep upstairs and the entertaining to carry on in the open plan living and outdoor entertaining area.

We love the triple-paneled skylight over the staircase, drenching the upstairs built-in office and kids’ rumpus area with natural light. These skylights can also be closed to keep the upstairs cool in the warmer months.

Another skylight over the shower also creates a spa-like feel in the master ensuite, complete with heated towel rails and LED sensor lighting under the vanities.

Storage was an important aspect of the overall joinery design, optimising space for this family home. There are draws in bench that runs alongside the living room, the island bench, laundry and under-stair storage that is accessed via the butler’s pantry.
